Glenn D. Burlamachi (Chair):
Glenn is a licensed funeral director and purchased the MacRae-Tunnicliffe Concord Funeral Home in Concord in 2004 which he operates with his wife, Beth. He earned a B.S. Degree in Accounting and Business Management from Green Mt. College and an A.S. Degree from FINE Mortuary College where he continues to teach business and accounting. Prior to attending FINE Mortuary College, Glenn owned an electrical contracting business and a national lighting supply company for twelve years.

Harl Aldrich:
Harl is Chairman Emeritus of Haley & Aldrich, Inc., a geoenvironmental engineering form located in Boston.  He graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Science degrees in Civil engineering.  Prior to co-founding Haley & Aldrich in 1957, he served six years on the Civil Engineering faculty at MIT.  Harl has been President of the MIT Alumni Association and member of the MIT Corporation (Board of Trustees).  He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and a Distinguished Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.  Harl and his wife Lois have five children.  They have lived in Concord for 60 years, and at Newbury Court since 2006.  Harl is Past President of the Residents Association.

Iris Werbalowsky Barten, LMFT:
Iris has thirty years of experience as a skilled counselor and therapist working with people who are living with challenging physical and emotional issues, complex medical needs, and developmental disabilities. Her work with seniors has spanned her entire career. Iris was the Director of the Lynn Day Activity Center, a Social Worker and Unit Manager at the Perkins School for the Blind. She has also served as the Special Projects Coordinator of the Massachusetts Mental Health Counselors Association. She has a part-time practice as a counselor and consultant focusing on Life Cycles, Transitions, Loss, and Renewal. She consults with non-profit organizations regarding Team Building, Working More Effectively with Families, and Change. Iris graduated summa cum laude from SUNY Oneonta with a B.A. degree in Psychology and Sociology. She has a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology from Lesley College and is a licensed social worker and counselor. She is an active volunteer and member of Hadassah as well as a member of the Deaconess Development Committee

Donna Grinnell:
Donna graduated from Colby Junior College (now Colby Sawyer College) and Wheelock College and was an elementary school teacher for seven years before her two children were born.  She and her husband Ken have lived in Acton for over 40 years.  She volunteers at Saint Matthews United Methodist Church, and Emerson Hospital.  She is past President of the Emerson Hospital Auxiliary and served two years on the board of the Mass Hospital Association as state volunteer chairman.  At Saint Matthews she has been a member of the Chancel Choir for 28 years and has served on various committees, including the recent building committee.  From 1994 to 2001, Donna was the Assistant Director of Community Services at Emerson Hospital, responsible for the scheduling and training of over 500 adult and student volunteers.   She recently retired from her last position at Emerson as the Hospital Gift Shop Manager, and has made a four-year commitment as an associate at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, as well as volunteering at Emerson and her church. 

Harry Hedison:
Harry Hedison is a Partner of Mercury Capital Advisors, the former Merrill Lynch Private Equity Funds Group. Mr. Hedison began his career with Morgan Stanley’s Real Estate Investment Banking Group and has over 20 years of real estate capital markets and investment banking experience. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the Whittemore School of Business and Economics and a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Finance and Real Estate from the Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Michigan. Mr. Hedison is also a member of the Finance Committee and sits on the Board of the Bare Hill Rowing Association in Harvard. He resides in Acton and is married with three children.

Reverend John Lombard:
Rev. John Lombard serves at Senior Minister to the Trinitarian Congregational Church in Concord Center since 1993.  He was ordained to the Christian Ministry in 1976, United Church of Christ, serving pastorates in Torrington, CT and Portsmouth, NH.  Prior to the ministry he was part of a family business, The Olde Grist Mill Restaurant & Country Store in Kennebunkport, ME.  He received a B.A. from Colby College, a M.A. from the University of Wisconsin, a M.Div. from Yale University and a Certificate in Gerontology from the University of New Hampshire.  Rev. John Lombard was born in Kennebunkport, ME.  He lived in Torrington, CT from 1976-1980 and in Portsmouth, NH form 1980-1993.  He currently lives in Concord and has two daughters.

Phyllis S. Maurer:
Phyllis graduated from the American Institute of Banking and was the A.V.P. and Branch Administrator of the Hudson National Bank, retiring in 1975 She is married to Bruce D. Maurer of Concord and has two girls, ages 25 and 27 (their children are 5th generation Concordians) and two grandsons. Phyllis continued working for the family business, “The Frank Maurer Co., Inc. (earth moving, development and landscape design and installation) which has been in business since 1953. In the 1980’s the company grew to include custom home building. Phyllis has been a realtor in the Concord area since then and is currently employed at the Carlson GMAC Real Estate as a broker and focuses on the wide Metro West area real estate market. She is a member of the Concord Lions Club, President elect of the Rotary Club of Concord, MA, Advisory board member of the Concord Recreation Dept.’s annual Golf Tournament, Past President of the Quota Club of Concord (women’s professional organization), and Past President of the Greater Boston Real Estate Board Council.

Christopher Sintros:
Christopher graduated from the College of the Holy Cross with a degree in Religious Studies as well as a certificate in the Gerontological Studies Program.  He attended graduate school at Miami University, Oxford Ohio where he earned his Masters of Gerontological Studies, with a focus in long term care administration, as well as his nursing home administrator’s license.  His master’s capstone project was completed in conjunction with a Mass ALFA survey and focused on the variability of acuity levels in assisted living communities. Following graduation, Christopher joined Genesis Eldercare where he served for four years as an Executive Director of an 80 unit assisted living community followed by four years as the administrator of a 126 bed skilled nursing facility. Chris has also served on the Council on Aging in Andover where he lives with his wife and baby son, Thomas. 

Joseph Strain:
PREVIOUS RESIDENCES: Lynn, Revere, Somerville, Rockport, Concord. Westborough
EDUCATION: Suffolk University, A.B. (History); Boston College, M.A. (English); Harvard University, C.A.G.S. and Ed. D. (Educational Administration)
PROFESSION: 43 years at Suffolk University: Professor and Chair, Communications Dept.; Assoc-. iate Dean Emeritus, College of Liberal Arts; and Dean of Enrollment Management, School of Management and College of Liberal Arts. The Heritage Committee awarded me the Heritage Medallion for “Distinguished Service to Suffolk University.” It reads, in part, “Your personal skills and application made it possible for the college to pass several milestones on the way to institutional maturity and development, milestones that include [three] successful accreditation campaigns, crucial Title III grant-writing efforts, pioneering long-range and strategic planning activities, and ground-breaking faculty governance initiatives.” Cambridge Who’s Who includes “leadership and excellence in teaching, academic administration, and advocacy for the elderly.”
FAMILY: I first met Marie M. Burlingame when she was 13, and I was a college freshman. After WWII, we met again at her graduation from Framingham Teachers College. We married two years later. Our children are Joseph H. Strain, Jr., Jeanne E. Strain, Margaret M. Strain, and Donna M. Woelki (mother of grandsons Eric and Gregory).
When our children were grown, Marie earned an M.Th.Std. at Harvard Divinity School and had a long career as a volunteer, teaching religious education for St. Bernard’s CCD program, tutoring immigrants, visiting terminally ill and psychotic patients at Emerson Hospital, and black lifers in prison. As Founder and President of National Peace Day Celebrations, Inc., a non-profit organization that held annual processions from Concord Center to the Old North Bridge. The Framingham Peace Council awarded her the Samantha Smith Peace Award. She taught Yoga and Christian Meditation to fund her charitable activities, and taught me to stand on my head.
Marie had Alzheimer’s for 15 years, and I was her primary caregiver. When The Willows at Westborough decided to transfer her to the Alzheimer’s unit, we moved to Newbury Court. Ten nights later, she died peacefully in her sleep.
MILITARY SERVICE: As a Lieutenant, USMCR, in World War II, I was a Carrier-Qualified Naval Aviator. I flew the Douglas Dauntless, Curtiss Helldiver, and Corsair Fighter-Bomber in the Marshall Islands. As a Captain in the Korean War, I was a fighter and helicopter pilot, Assistant Operations Officer, and Public Information Officer. I flew Sikorsky HRS Helicopters to transport troops and equipment, envelop enemy units, evacuate wounded, and track N. Koreans in the snow-covered mountains. The U.S. Army’s all-black Buffalo Regiment made me an honorary member for night evacuation flights. I also served on detached duty with the Army near Panmunjom and daily flew senior admirals and generals to the Peace Conference.
ACTIVITIES: My recreational interests included hiking and bicycling in the White Mountains, canoeing from Concord to Rockport, MA; building and sailing a sailboat; salvaging and renovating a motorized lifeboat; flying weekends in the Marine Reserves, and renovating an 11-room house. Marie and I visited Copper Canon and the Sea of Cortez in Mexico, took a 6-week camping tour of U.S. National Parks, and cruised on small ships in Alaska, Mexico, and the Outer Islands of England, Ireland, and Scotland. We also attended family reunions in Prince Edwards Island, Canada.
MEMBERSHIP: For the past ten years, I have been a Life Member of the Massachusetts Life Care Residents Association, served on its Executive Committee, and as volunteer Editor of its quarterly newsletter, Massachusetts Patriot, which is accessible at www.mlcra.org . Click on “News Notes.”
I am a Life Member of the National Continuing Care Residents Association (NaCCRA), and Volunteer Advisor to the Continuing Care Accreditation Commission (CARF-CCAC). I organized the interim Residents Association for Newbury Court (North), which subsequently merged with the Newbury Court (South) Association. I have served on the Budget Committee, Quality of Services Committee, Community Relations Committee, and am a resident member of  the Trustees Board of Overseers.

Herbert Taylor:
Rev. Herbert B. Taylor is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Deaconess Abundant Life Communities (Deaconess).  Rev. Taylor has a Bachelor of Science degree from Bates College (magna cum laude) and an MBA from Harvard Business School and a Master’s of Divinity from Boston University (summa cum laude).  His business experience is in management consulting where he worked for Arthur D. Little, Inc., in Cambridge, MA.  While at Arthur D. Little, Inc., he became a Senior Consultant involved in strategic planning, organizational development, merger and acquisition advice, and marketing direction for major U.S. and multinational corporations.  As a pastor his most recent appointment was at the Wilmington United Methodist Church in Wilmington, MA.  This church grew by 300 in average attendance during the seven years Rev. Taylor served as its pastor. Rev. Taylor chaired the Visioning Task Force for the New England Conference of the United Methodist Church to develop a vision for ministry for its 600 churches and a plan for implementation.  He has also taught Pastoral Leadership at Boston University.  During the last fifteen years, Herb has led mission trips to Puerto Rico, Mexico, Peru, Haiti, Kentucky, New York City and Maine.  Rev. Taylor is the President of MassAging and an active member of Rotary Club of Concord.
